Who are CSUN Faculty?

There’s no question that you will find connections with fellow faculty in your department. Make time for social lunches—even on Zoom! But make an effort to connect with folks outside your department and college, too. Countless faculty share with us that some of their greatest work friendships were made as a result of university-level events such as New Faculty Foundations. It’s helpful to find circles where you can share freely about what you are navigating and where you need advice.  

 2.9 WHO ARE CSUN FACULTY?

As of Fall 2023, CSUN has over 2,000 faculty members who teach courses leading to bachelor’s degrees in 68 disciplines, master’s degrees in 69 fields, and doctorates in three fields, as well as 17 teaching credential programs.

There are almost 800 tenured or tenure-track faculty at CSUN and over 1,200 faculty are lecturers. Nearly 48% of CSUN faculty identify as male and 52% identify as female, 30% of CSUN faculty identify as people of color, and 1.5% come from outside the United States. Faculty Senate

You should also get to know the Faculty Senate, CSUN's governing body made up of members from various units within the university.  The CSU Board of Trustees decided that "Collegial governance assigns primary responsibility to the faculty for the educational functions of the institution in accordance with basic policy as determined by the Board of Trustees."  It is our Faculty Senate who fulfills this role. The senate website reveals the current Faculty Senate roster, the meeting calendar should you want to attend as a guest, and the meeting agendas and minutes to follow discussions of academic policy.

How To Find Faculty Online

There are two ways to search for people at CSUN.

  1. Directory: At the top of every CSUN webpage is a link to the directory for all faculty, staff and administrators.  This will provide information supplied by Human Resources.
  2. CSUN Faculty App: When you want to know more about CSUN faculty, this website provides a pathway to actually connect with others using faculty profiles and searching research interests and themes. Inspired by faculty who desired a way to collaborate with new colleagues, you can explore the scholarship link, several faculty stories, and it even lists five possible faculty hangout locations on campus.  As with any networking tool, the more people who complete their profile, the more functional it becomes.
