HR Insights: Understanding Your Pay & Benefits | Faculty
Human Resources will be hosting an “HR Insights: Understanding Your Pay & Benefits” informational session just for faculty. This virtual session will provide greater detail on how and when faculty are paid and the various benefit options available.
Register to attend an upcoming session. confirmation and Zoom connection information will be provided upon registration.
New Employee Welcome Orientation
Human Resources hosts New Employee Welcome Orientation (NEWO), which is an optional meeting for new employees that is offered monthly. NEWO provides a review of campus priorities and the roadmap to the future, an overview of Employee Relations, the history of the CSU and CSUN, campus resources available to all employees, as well as presentations from Environmental Health & Safety, Information Technology, and Equity and Compliance. It is also an opportunity to meet other new colleagues, as well as to hear from your union representative.

Benefits
Your benefits are managed by the Benefits Administration unit within Human Resources. They offer a helpful "Enrolling in Benefits" guidebook for new employees, and you can read a CSU Employee Benefits Summary Links to an external site., and a Health Benefit Summary Links to an external site..
NOTE: You have 60 days from your date of hire (effective date) to enroll in your benefits.
You can also join HR for an overview of all your available CSU benefits. This live session will provide information and resources to assist you with choosing plans that make sense for you and your family. HR realizes that making benefit choices and navigating the details of benefit coverage can be challenging, so they want to help.
Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program provides confidential services at no cost for California State University, Northridge faculty and staff and your permanent household members. Use this benefit when you need some guidance, problem assessment, short-term counseling and/or referral to local resources.
Whether you are looking for caregiving, legal, financial, health or other resources, LifeMatters is there to help. For free and confidential direct assistance, you can call LifeMatters at 1-800-367-7474 or visit www.myLifematters.com, 24 hours/7 days a week for information and helpful resources. Calm
All CSUN faculty and staff are eligible to enjoy a free subscription to Calm. Your Calm subscription gives you unlimited access to the full library of content at calm.com and in the Calm app. In fact, you can now share your Calm subscription with up to 5 additional devices with your same login credentials. Enjoy the perks of Calm with your family and loved ones—all while becoming happier and healthier together!

Payroll
The Payroll & Operations Administration unit is within Human Resources. You can find helpful information about when you will be getting paid, withholding and deductions, how to read your pay warrant, how to enroll in Direct Deposit, and how to check your balance of sick time on the Payroll Basics site. We invite you to bookmark the Payroll Calendar and AY Pay Distribution schedule to check dates for each month's payday and direct deposit.
Direct Deposit
HR recommends enrolling in Direct Deposit to enable the State Controller’s Office to wire your earnings directly to your designated financial institution. This convenient and safe option provides you with secure and timely access to your funds, saving you from commuting to campus only to pick up your paycheck.
Cal Employee Connect (CEC)
Cal Employee Connect is a secure platform provided by the State Controller’s Office (SCO) that allows you to access up to four (4) years of monthly earning statements and your W-2’s whenever you need them.
Compliance Training
The CSU requires that employees take certain courses to comply with state and university requirements that are driven by federal law, state law or CSU policy. Some courses are required for all employees, while some are based on an employee’s role or responsibilities.
CSU Learn
Required courses are assigned to an employee via the CSU’s Learning Management System, called CSU Learn. An employee will receive an email notice when a course is assigned with an indication of a date by which the course must be completed.
CSUN Learn also hosts thousands of books, articles, videos, learning bundles, learning journeys, and certification courses. HR News
HR News is a digital monthly newsletter curated by Human Resources and distributed to all faculty and staff. HR News is divided into three sections:
HR Updates – which provides information related to upcoming payroll, benefits, and other human resources related procedures and policies;
Campus Updates and Events – which provides information highlighting upcoming events, speakers, and campus wide happenings, all of interest to faculty and staff. (If you have an upcoming program or speaker that you would like to invite faculty and staff to, this is the place to include that information.); and finally,
Professional & Personal Programming – which promotes new trainings available in CSU Learn, workshops offered as part of the system-wide Cross Campus Collaboration program, or trainings offered by IT, the Universal Design Center, and Academic Technology, and other campus departments.

Sustainability
Sustainability is a key priority at California State University, Northridge, integrated into all aspects of the university from operations and infrastructure to outreach, education and research. All sessions will be held in the Sustainability Center Conference room from 11:30-12:30pm.
