Efforts to Take to Prevent/Deter a Hostile Act
Police Services takes a three-pronged approach to the prevention of hostile acts on our campus:
Prevention Services
The CSUN DPS provides information, education, and training for students, faculty, and staff, including:
- the Rape Aggression Defense self-defense program, offered as a semester-long class for students and as a 12-hour workshop for other community members
- the Active Shooter Awareness Video
- Matador Patrol, which provides free escorts to students and faculty as they walk anywhere on campus between dusk and 11 p.m. (call 818-677-5042 for an escort)
- Security Surveys
- Campus Patrol
Intervention Services
For circumstances that circumvent preventive measures or are simply situations that are not preventive, CSUN DPS engages in a variety of intervention methods to maintain safety and security, including:
- Behavioral Threat Assessments
- Active Safety Plan Services
- 911 Center
- Trained Response
- Gunshot Detection
Investigation Services
As the last line of defense against crime and unsafe conditions, CSUN DPS conducts thorough and relevant investigations into criminal matters. They use in-house detectives, collaboration with law enforcement partners, strong case management, crime analysis and loop back to prevention.
