This "Service Learning" course involves students in the creation of writing, photography, video/multimedia reports and promotional content for a local non-profit organization working with the homeless and those struggling with poverty in North Hills, an economically depressed neighborhood located less than five miles from the CSUN campus. Depending on the students’ own areas of expertise (broadcast, print, photography, public relations, social media) each student will create content for dissemination through the mass media, and for use by the organization for promotional and/or educational purposes. There may also be opportunities to work with children and parents on a variety of activities, including creative projects.
