Basic Dramaturgy Part 2

Having reviewed the social history, now you can use the Library to find information about  production history, and production reviews.

Starting with production history. Say you want to know more about Glengarry Glen Ross. Search for books and articles about the play:

I have also limited the search to peer-reviewed journals and am paying attention to the names of the journals: I do not want to read articles in film journals, as I am interested in the play. What is the difference between a review in a newspaper versus in a peer-reviewed journal? For one thing, a review in a newspaper will appear much faster, sometimes the same week that the reviewer attended the play. But a peer-reviewed journal review takes longer to be accepted by the editorial team (sometimes months) and is written by a scholar/professor versus a journalist. You will learn about other difference in class, but this is just something to keep in mind.

Finally, to find production reviews, you can search newspaper databases for reviews, or you can use OneSearch to find more "academic" reviews from theatre journals:

You can use something like Wikipedia as a jumping off point, but do not cite it. Instead, use the articles for keywords, and search for the works cited in OneSearch.
