Materials needed:

  • Blank pieces of 8 x 11 paper
  • Document scanner or computer with camera (Optional)

Learning challenge addressed/predictable outcome:

  • Students as teachers
  • In-class collaboration

Best used for:

  • Groups of 4
  • Any size class

Learning objectives/skills fostered:

  • Encourages active engagement for better learning
  • Extends thinking through sharing different thoughts
  • Empowers the self-directed learning
  • Increases synthesis of material
  • Increases students’ comfort with each other
  • Improves learner outcomes
  • Encourages student engagement

What to do/how to do it:

  1. Have students form groups of 4.
  2. Give each group a blank piece of paper.
  3. Ask students to draw, as a group, a pictorial representation of one concept from
class (if doing showing option, tell class that images will be shared at end of class).
  4. (Optional) Using document camera/projector or camera on laptop/computer/iPad,
project completed images so the entire class can view and discuss.

Tips for implementing:

  • Some students may be self-conscious about their artistic abilities, so assure students that not everyone has to physically draw; they can still participate by contributing their ideas to the group’s discussion.
