Resources for Students

Message from your peer facilitator:
Sometimes we find ourselves in a situation with a student that needs the kind of help and support we are not uniquely trained or qualified for. But who is qualified? You are joining a campus filled with student support services. Work toward getting to know the real humans in these offices so that your warm-handoff can connect students to people, not offices, as recommended by Luke Wood (2020). So instead of, "University Counseling Services is great; go check it out!" You can say, "I know a number of the counselors at University Counseling Services, and they're great. Here is their contact information."

 2.6 RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS

As a faculty member, you can be a vital ally to your student's mental and physical wellbeing. It is helpful to know resources CSUN has available that you can recommend to your students.  When a student discloses stressors to you in office hours or an email, referring them to one of the offices featured in this module can make all the difference.

It is also a best practice to promote equity in the classroom to link to relevant resources on their syllabus or Canvas site. By providing information that supports student learning, you are minimizing barriers for some students that might not know that these services exist and students who might be uncomfortable disclosing a personal issue and asking for assistance.
