Introduction
Welcome to Introduction to Psychology. This is an introductory course that will cover the fundamentals of psychology and the various areas within psychology. Many aspects of psychology are applicable to everyday life; such as, stress, learning, memory, motivation, and mental health to name a few. Some of you may spark an interest in psychology and consider continuing your education in the field. Regardless of your intentions for taking this course, I hope there is something that you take away from this class that you will carry with you throughout your life.
Class Expectations (“CPR”)
- COURTESY. Be courteous to the people around you. This means being respectful and considerate to different cultural backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, religions, sexual orientations, political affiliations, etc.
- PARTICIPATION. Participate in class. You will learn more, meet new people, feel more comfortable in class, and find the class more entertaining. Plus, it helps me remember your name.
- RESPONSIBILITY. Be responsible with your academics. Get your reading done, complete your assignments, study in advance, and attend class meetings on time. Showing up late or missing class can lead to missing important information.
Cheating and Plagiarism
All members of the CSUN academic community have an explicit responsibility to present as their original work only that which is truly their own. Cheating, plagiarism, and other forms of academic dishonesty are contrary to the ideals and purposes of a university and will not be tolerated. Note that plagiarism includes the deliberate misrepresentation of someone else’s words or ideas as your own, as well as paraphrasing without footnoting the source. Any instance of academic dishonesty will result in a zero for the assignment or exam and a letter to the dean of your college, the chair of your department and the office of the Vice President of Student Affairs. This office may take further action, including suspension and/or expulsion from the university.
